HHS track runner ends season on a high note

Ama’s Precious Singleton gives her all at Hahnville High’s track meets not only for her school or herself, but in memory of the parish’s most celebrated track runner Don Rayomnd. And with that said, Raymond would have a lot to be proud of. After all, Singleton closes the 2008 season with a bang after being named MVP at the St. James Relays in March and winning at top spot at district.

At the district track meet in April, Singleton ran the 800 meter dash and dedicated her victory to Raymond.

And at the recent state track meet in Baton Rouge, Singleton pulled through for her team during the 4×2 relays.

“Precious was in fifth place when she received the stick from Constance Mitchell,” said Singleton’s father, Glenn.

“But she managed to place in third for the team and bring home a medal.”

Most days it seems like there’s no stopping this 17-year-old powerhouse, but before she snagged the MPV award in March, fate tested her strength.

“Precious’ brother Jaren was in a horrible car accident that same month,” said Glenn.

“It really took a toll on her, but she pushed forward and has a lot to be proud of.”

Precious will continue to practice throughout the summer with indoor track meets and hopes to be victorious as a junior at HHS next year.
