Lady Tigers also on a roll as they pick up 11th win
The Hahnville Tigers are off to an impressive start this season and have shown plenty of offense on their way to 9 victories in their first 10 games. The Tigers got the season started with a 4-1 win over 4A St. Michael, and continued pounding out the runs in a 7-5 win over 3A Lutcher.
The team then suffered their first loss, falling 4-1 to 5A Walker, but were able to regroup with another string of solid victories.
Keying off that win streak was a thrilling 5-4 win over Central.
That win set the tone for a couple of close victories, with the Tigers coming out on top on both occasions. Hahnville pulled out a 9-6 win over Thibodaux, and then squeaked by Rummel by a 5-4 score.
After picking up those close victories, the Tiger offense really began to explode.
The team hammered out 14 runs in a victory over Eunice, then pounded out 11 more in a win over Ouachita.
The Tigers then picked up their second win over Central, before destroying Parkway 21-6 to stretch their record to 9-1.
Like Hahnville, Destrehan has also played well throughout the first two weeks of the season, with the Wildcats currently enjoying a 7-4 record.
The team rebounded from a tough 4-1 loss against 3A No. 1 ranked Parkview Baptist to open the season, with a 4-2 victory over Terrebonne, but then lost a pair of contests to West Monroe and Zachary.
After those two games, Destrehan really settled into a grove, starting with a 6-0 shutout win against Holy Cross.
The Wildcats then exploded for 12 runs in a victory over Thibodaux and rolled off four straight wins against Zachary, Ruston, Alexandria and Benton.
The scores of those games were 10-4, 6-2, 1-0 and 5-1, respectively.
“Our pitching staff has really been playing great and we have been playing well defensively,” Destrehan head coach Marty Luquet said. “We have been getting some timely hitting, but I want to see our hitting improve.”
Following the success of their male counterparts, the Hahnville softball team improved their overall record to 11-3 after they finished 3-1 in the Lutcher Tournament.
The Lady Tigers opened up the event with a close 1-0 loss to Chapelle, but then blew past John Curtis 10-1.
That offensive production continued against Cecilia and Dominican, with Hahnville picking up 7-1 and 3-0 victories, respectively.
Lauren Candies pitched her team to three of those wins, with Megan Hamilton jacking a grand slam against John Curtis to help her team reach 10 runs.
Jia Bridges also had a homerun against Cecilia.
The top hitters over the weekend for the Lady Tigers were Destinee Nicholas, Kristen Laque and Amber Dutreix.
