HHS cross country team starts season on right foot

Finish 4th in opening meet

On Saturday morning, in less than favorable running conditions at Highland Park, the HHS Cross Country team ended the day with a very respectable fourth-place finish out of 17 teams.

The Tigers totaled 118 points, which was 33 points behind third-place Episcopal of Baton Rouge. St Paul’s of Covington won the event and Catholic High of Baton Rouge was second.

The Tigers were led by Bryce Robinson, who finished the 3-mile course in a time of 15:37.28, less than 9 seconds behind the leader and favorite to win the state championship this year, Zachary Albright of St. Paul’s.

Albright is the defending state 1600 and 3200 meter champion.

Beau Robinson was also in the top five (5th) with a time of 16:13.72.

The other runners for the Tigers were Nicholas Lirette (18:40.34), Shawn Maher (19:06.97), Bailey Breaux (19:21.34), Patrick Phelan (20:06.28) and Jose Portillo (20:56.00).

The Tigers look to build on these results as they head back to the same course for the Episcopal Round Table meet at Highland this Saturday. They will face off against Destrehan and other local teams next Wednesday in the Bonnet Carre Spillway.
