He’s outta here – HHS coach takes new job

Hahnville High School loses a great coach in John Lambert, who’s accepted a plum position at East Ascension as athletic director/head football coach. Say “adios” to Hahnville High School football-offensive coordinator John Lambert – he’s moving to East Ascension High School where he’ll take over as athletic director/head football coach on Jan. 8.

“I can’t wait to get this started,” he told a reporter.

“Back when the job first came open, I made a statement to (Hahnville) Coach (Lou) Valdin that I would like to be the head football coach and athletic director at East Ascension.

“‘He said, ‘Go for it and I’ll help you.'”

Lambert, 37, was unanimously approved by the Ascension Parish School Board to become the ninth head football coach at the school.

The offensive coordinator at Hahnville High for the past seven years, Lambert replaces Billy Beasley who resigned after 11 seasons last month.

“We had some really outstanding candidates,” said Donald Songy, the Superintendent of Ascension Parish Schools. “Mr. Lambert was impressive.”

Lambert heads into the position with solid credentials as an assistant coach.

Hahnville was a perennial state contender in his years at the school, compiling a 75-13 record.

Lambert was the offensive coordinator the 2003 team that went 15-0 and defeated Evangel, 41-35, in the Class 5A state championship game.

In that contest, the Tigers set or tied 17 Class 5A title game records, including points, total yards and first downs.
