Hahnville’s season comes to end with 87-28 loss to Scotlandville

The Hahnville High School boys’ basketball team suffered an 87-28 loss to the third-seeded Scotlandville Hornets in the Class 5A bi-district playoff game in Scotlandville on Friday night.

Hahnville Head Coach Marcell Fisher said he felt prepared and confident going into the game. He said he thought their pressing style fit his team due to the fact they did well all year handling pressure and scoring in transition. The problem was they just didn’t shoot very well.

“We went 0-11 in the second period,” Fisher said. “In fact, we went 2-26 in the second half, to which they outscored us with a 25-2 run–game over.”

In fact, Hahnville only made 4 of 15 shots taken from the field in the first quarter. Trailing 18-8, they were unable to score from the field, only off two free throws from Hahnville’s Nathan Kennedy with just under six minutes to play in the half.

Fisher said Scotlandville was a great team loaded with Division 1 prospects that has a winning tradition. He said they were trying to build the same thing at Hahnville and someday they would get there.

Though the Tigers will lose senior Fountainette Bradley, who made first team all-district this season, they return three players who were honorable mention all-district, including junior Mason Aucoin, Kennedy and freshman Sai Fisher.

“I’m looking for all three of these players to have break out seasons next year,” Fisher said.

Fisher said he feels point guard play will be “key” for the Tigers next year in order to make the jump to district contenders, but Kendall Pierre Jr., Christian McKinney and Raylon Hardy give him hope. He also said the improved shooting and play of rising senior JaDon Polk could help the team achieve a higher seed next season.

As for this year, Fisher told his team to use this game’s outcome as a lesson learned. He also gave them some motivational advice.

“I told them to post this game’s final score on their lockers,” Fisher said. “I told them to post it somewhere at home too, as a reminder of how hard they need to work for next season.”
