Hahnville snaps back to form, beats Terrebonne 41-10

Hahnville needed a victory in the worst way coming into its Friday night district matchup at Terrebonne, and the Tigers answered the bell and then some.

HHS rolled to a 41-10 victory to even its record at 3-3 this season, in the process snapping a 3-game losing streak.

“We really needed this one,” Hahnville coach Nick Saltaformaggio said. “It’s been a tough three weeks … I kept thinking, we’re a good football team and that something good was going to happen for us. And tonight, we played well in every phase of the game. It was great to see.”

The Tigers (3-3, 1-1) got itself going with a little trickery, Anthony Williams’ halfback pass to Dylan Crockett for a touchdown allowing HHS to jump out to an 8-3 lead.

Mike Neal, Norquell Flowers and Drew Dunn each had a rushing score for Hahnville, which also got a punt return for a score from Williams and a defensive score by Chris Marshall.

That defensive score came after Marshall stripped a Terrebonne ballcarrier and recovered himself, scooping and scoring to make it a 15-3 game. But Terrebonne threatened to take momentum right back after an interception of Neal and a return for a touchdown.

It proved, however, to be the Gators’ last gasp. Neal scored on a keeper to make it 21-10, then Williams broke an 80-yard punt return for 6 to turbocharge the Tigers, who never looked back from there.

“We’re 3-3, which is exactly where we were last year, heading into a game with the exact same opponent in East St. John,” Saltaformaggio said.

The coach said the 3-game losing streak didn’t offer much to feel good about, but he feels his team can be stronger for having gone through it.

“You look at those teams that beat us, and one scored 41 tonight, one scored 62 and the last one scored 70,” Saltaformaggio said. “Maybe it puts it all in a little perspective. We’re not where Destrehan is, not where St. Thomas More is right now, no way can I say otherwise. But if we can be a little better than the team we have to play on a Friday night, and keep doing that each week and getting a little better every time, we’ll be exactly where we want to be. That’s the state playoffs, and hopefully we can be playing our best football once we’re there.”
