Hahnville races to third straight win, 28-6 over Central Lafourche

Hahnville’s on a roll.

The Tigers captured its third straight victory Friday night by defeating host Central Lafourche, 28-6.

Norquell Flowers and Anthony Williams each scored two rushing touchdowns for Hahnville, which improved its record to 5-3 (3-1 in District 7-5A) with the win.

The Tigers led 21-0 at halftime and 28-0 midway through the third quarter.

“We played really well tonight,” HHS coach Nick Saltaformaggio said. “We had a lot of penalties against us and, you know, that’s the way it goes sometimes. It’s a big win for us. Central Lafourche is a good football team … we’ve kind of righted the ship. When you look at the teams we lost to and what they’re doing, the competition level becomes apparent. We’ve regrouped and we’re coming together nicely.”

Saltaformaggio said that while the state playoffs won’t begin until two more regular season games are played, as far as he’s concerned, his team starts the postseason now.

“We just played a 4-3 team, just like we are,” Saltaformaggio said. “Next week, we play a 5-3 team, just like we are now. These games become extremely important. I told the kids, the playoffs started for us tonight.”

Hahnville held Central Lafourche (4-4, 1-3) to 129 yards of total offense, much of that coming late in the game.

“We weren’t going to let them run the football,” Saltaformaggio said.

Hahnville still has many goals left to accomplish this season, but the one at hand next is one often taken for granted.

“That sixth win is always a big one, because once you get to six wins, you can’t be a loser,” Saltaformaggio said. “You’ll have a winning record. At Hahnville, that should always be the case.”
