Both teams 5-0 heading into game
Larry Dauterive brings his high powered offense into Boutte on Oct. 6 as he looks to keep the Wildcats on track and moving towards the Superdome on Dec. 9. Hewill be looking to avenge a home playoff to Hahnville last year when Hahnville defeated East St. John 33-25. In that game, Hahnville’s defense dominated the Wildcats, forcing three safeties and a defensive score.
Hahnville coach Lou Valdin says he will work with his team to prepare for Dauterive and the Wildcats.
“We’ve got to spend a whole lot of time lining up so they don’t out-personnel us. East St. John is the offense of a million formations,” said Valdin.
The Wildcats bring a host of offensive weapons to face a very good Tiger defense. From Johnny Owens and Joshuelle Tuesno, to Johnnie Thiel and Jordan Snipes, East St. John can score quickly from anywhere on the field. The Wildcats also boast a legitimate weapon with kicker Radi Jabour, who can connect from 50 yards and beyond.
The game kicks off district play in what is widely considered the best district in 5A football- – 5-5A. With East St. John, Hahnville and Destrehan all 5-0 and Assumption 4-1, something has got to give. “It ought to be a heck of a football game,” said Valdin.
Tigers remain strong in victory over St. Augustine
Hahnville scored on their first three possessions last Friday night against St. Augustine to open a 17-0 lead. Kicker Brandon Larousse put the first points on the board with a 42-yard field goal. After Tiger defensive lineman Andre Baudoin fell onto a Purple Knight fumble, Hahnville runningback/fullback Jordan Stephany scored on a 12-yard romp. Stephany scored again on an 18-yard run on the Tigers next possession, giving the Tigers a 17-0 first quarter lead.
The Tiger defense came up with another St. Augustine fumble and Tiger quarterback Early James took advantage, going up top and connecting with runningback Ivory Washington on a 31-yard pass for a touchdown.
St. Augustine scored with 4:08 seconds in the half, but failed to convert on the 2-point conversion and Hahnville took the 24-6 lead into the half.
Neither team was able to score in the third quarter and the quarter ended with the Tigers marching towards the St. Augustine endzone.
Early James found the endzone on a quarterback keeper from 3-yards out early in the fourth quarter. The Purple Knights failed to move the ball in their possession and punted to Hahnville with 9:18 to play.
The Tiger offensive unit was able to sustain a drive that ran the clock out, denying the Purple Knights any further opportunities to score.
Prior to halftime, Hahnville’s standout defensive back Shaine Boyle had his right leg tended to on the sideline and was seen walking with his leg wrapped in ice.
“We could have had him if we needed him,” said Valdin after the game. Boyle also said he would ready to play against the East St. John Wildcats this week. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
