The Hahnville baseball team belted out eight hits but was only able to score three runs in a tough loss to Jesuit on Monday.
The Tigers had beaten Jesuit 16-3 just a little over a week ago, but four Hahnville errors helped put Jesuit on top 8-3 this time around.
Hahnville struck first in the game after Easton Melancon blasted a hard ground ball through second to score Connor Lorio in the second inning. However, in the bottom of the frame Jesuit took advantage of a costly Hahnville error on a pop up to score Brandon Munster and Ben Hess and take a 2-1 lead.
The Blue Jays extended their lead to 5-1 in the fourth inning. Hess singled to center to start the frame and consecutive singles by Nathan Zimmer and Mitch Alexander brought the third Jesuit run across the plate.
Zimmer then scored on a passed ball and Trent Forshag blasted a single to right to put his team up 5-1.
Jesuit added another run in the bottom of the fifth, but the Hahnville Tigers finally struck back in the sixth inning to cut into the lead.
Todd Porche doubled to right to begin the frame and a following double by Brooks Vial gave the Tigers their second run of the game. Lorio, who had drawn a walk, moved around the bases and eventually came home on a passed ball to cut the Jesuit lead in half at 6-3.
But another costly Hahnville error in the bottom of the frame helped Jesuit put the game away. Jesuit pinch runner Benson Tucker advanced to third on a throwing error and scored on a second Tiger error to give Jesuit a 7-3 lead. Another single by Hess brought the final run of the game across the plate.
Vial suffered the loss for the Tigers, giving up seven hits and three earned runs in four innings. However, he did strike out seven in the short outing.
Vial led the Tigers from the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI. Melancon also had an RBI on one hit.
While Hahnville struggled against Jesuit, they played much better in back-to-back shutout wins last week against Central Lafourche and Salmen.
Against Central Lafourche, the Tigers scored three runs in the second inning and added seven more in the fourth for a 10-0 victory.
Vial picked up the win for Hahnville, giving up only two hits while striking out four in four innings.
Seven Tigers finished with RBIs in the game. Garret Smith recorded two RBIs, while Kyle Plaisance, Porche, Tyler Simmons, Lorio and Ty Cologne all drove in runs in the rout.
In the following game against Salmen, the Tigers rode the arm of Tyler Lamers to a 3-0 win. Lamers pitched a complete game and allowed only four hits while striking out five.
Cologne, Simmons and Porche all drove in runs for Hahnville in the victory.
Hahnville will travel to take on Holy Cross at 2 p.m. on Saturday and will hit the road again to battle Bonnabel at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
