Hahnville destroys Destrehan 48-10

The Hahnville Tigers didn’t just end Destrehan’s four-game win streak, they threw the streak to the ground and stomped all over it.

Hahnville used a balanced offensive attack to throttle the Wildcats 48-10 on Friday. Bruising running back Alfred Blue scored three touchdowns and quarterback Brian Ensminger threw for two more and ran for one of his own. Destrehan kicker Andrew Wyatt kicked a field goal in the first quarter, which ended up being the Wildcats only score until Kenrick Robertson ran one in late in the fourth quarter.

By then, the Tigers had already taken out their first string defense.

In a series that had been relatively close recently, Hahnville wasted no time proving they were the better team. Relying on Blue, the Tigers cruised down the field on their first possession, with Blue putting the Tigers on top 7-0 with an 8-yard touchdown run.

The Wildcats would eventually score some points of their own, with Wyatt’s 43-yard field goal cutting the Hahnville lead to 7-3. That’s how things would stay in the first, but the Tigers dominated the second to stretch their advantage.

Blue kicked off the scoring with a 2-yard run, then Ensminger connected with Butler twice to increase the Hahnville lead to 28-3 at the half. Ensminger and Butler’s touchdowns were on passes of 17 and 35 yards.

With the Wildcats reeling from the Tigers big second quarter, Hahnville again relied on Blue to run down the clock while moving them down the field. Blue scored his third touchdown on a 4-yard run. A Destrehan turnover on the next possession would end with Ensminger sneaking into the endzone from 1-yard out after connecting with Butler for 10 yards to set up the score.

With the Tigers up 42-3 heading into the fourth, hard-working fullback Lloyd Richard scored the last Hahnville touchdown of the night on a 24-yard run. The failed extra point was the Tigers only misfire of the night.

Destrehan’s Robertson scored the last touchdown of the evening on his 22-yard run, but by then the game was over.

Hahnville and East St. John are the only two undefeated teams left in district, but it’s hard to believe anyone could knock off the Tigers.
