Hahnville, Destrehan ready for Friday’s first round playoff matchups

It’s softball playoff time in St. Charles Parish.

Hahnville and Destrehan are both set to kickoff the postseason today with respective first round games in Class 5A. No. 12 Hahnville will host No. 21 Comeaux while No. 23 Destrehan travels to No. 10 Mandeville, both games set to begin at 4 p.m.

Destrehan finished the regular season with a mark of 14-16, but the Wildcats played at a higher level than that mark suggests, pushing several of the state’s top teams to their limit in several of those losses over the course of the program’s most challenging schedule in years. The Wildcats defeated Dutchtown in the final game of its regular season and have won five of their last seven contests overall.

Hahnville (21-9) was perhaps underrated by many entering the 2019 season due to the graduation of majority of its starting lineup from its 2018 club, a state runner-up that ranked among the greatest and most decorated teams in school history. But the new faces found success and then some, posting a 21-9 record this season and an unbeaten District 7-5A championship. The Tigers have won 12 of their last 14 games headed into today’s contest, including wins over Dominican, Ursuline and East Ascension over the past week.
