Hahnville, Destrehan prepare for district opener Jan. 20

Destrehan and Hahnville will meet on the hardwood on Jan. 20 in what will be the district opener for both squads.

Hahnville has had an impressive season so far, with their most recent win coming in a 62-47 thumping of John Ehret that gave the team an 18-4 record. Derrick Howard and Jared Kinsey each had 15 points to lead their team to the win.

The Tigers began the year 5-0 with big wins over Rabouin, Douglass, West Jefferson and a pair of Florida teams, St. Pete Catholic and St. Petersburg. Hahnville then fell to Reserve Christian, who is currently 28-4 on the year, by a score of 61-67. Hahnville lost two of their next three games before going on a six game win streak that included a 76-17 walloping of Algiers Tech. During that streak, the Tigers also beat fellow 5A squads Slidell and Chalmette by scores of 62-60 and 45-43, respectively.

Hahnville suffered their fourth loss to East Jefferson on Dec. 29, but heads into district play on a five game win streak.

Destrehan is currently 7-10 on the season, with their most recent win coming in a 45-43 thriller against Jesuit.

The Wildcats opened the season with two straight losses to St. Paul and Zachary, but then rebounded to hand West Jefferson a 68-41 defeat. From that point on, Destrehan has been on a roller coaster of wins and losses, beating Bonnabel, Brother Martin, Hammond and H.L. Bourgeois while falling to Catholic, Fountainebleau and Woodlawn.

Elsewhere in District 6-5A, East Ascension is sitting pretty at 20-2, St. Amant is 15-4, Dutchtown is 11-7 and East St. John is 9-12.
