Hahnville, Destrehan pick up district wins

Tigers blow past East Ascension 37-2, Destrehan tops Dutchtown 14-6

Hahnville and Destrehan both got off to slow starts in their first district contests of the year, but in the second half, each picked up enough speed to move to 1-0 in district play.

The Tigers only managed 2 points in the first two quarters of play, but caught fire in the second to throttle East Ascension 37-2.

Hahnville’s defense got the first points of the game by forcing the East Ascension punter to kick the ball out of the endzone. However, in the second quarter East Ascension got a safety of their own after an errant snap sailed out of the endzone.

The first half would end with the game tied 2-2.

But in the third quarter, Hahnville was ignited by a 65 yard fumble return by

Jerqwinick Sandolph. Running back Alfred Blue then scored three touchdowns in the quarter, on runs of 53, 2 and 1 yard to put the Tigers ahead 30-2.

Hahnville put the finishing touches on East Ascension in the fourth with Brian Ensminger hitting Lloyd Richard for a 13 yard score.

Just as the fumble recovery ignited Hahnville, an interception return by Cody Scioneaux ended a late Dutchtown threat and gave the Wildcats a 14-6 victory.

The Destrehan offense moved the ball on Dutchtown all night, but couldn’t capitalize on long drives as they entered the red zone three times and came away with zero points.

That allowed Dutchtown to take a 3-0 lead heading into the second half.

The Wildcats finally punched the ball into the endzone on a 4th and goal from the one when Kevin Smith barreled his way into the endzone in the third.

Though Dutchtown would add another field goal, a 27 yard interception return for a touchdown by Scioneaux put the final nail in the Dutchtown coffin.
