Hahnville can’t seem to overcome Destrehan

For the second time this season, the Hahnville Tigers came up just short of doing something nobody else in District 6-5A has been able to do – beat Destrehan.

Hahnville (13-13, 3-5) took an early 1-0 lead over the Wildcats (17-9, 8-0) in the bottom of the third. However, the Wildcats picked up two runs in the fourth and got four innings of scoreless relief pitching to hand the Tigers their fifth district loss.

The last time these two teams faced off, Hahnville took a 3-0 lead in the third and held a 6-3 advantage in the fifth inning. But the Wildcats picked up a run in the sixth and then won the game in a dramatic seventh inning to finish with a 7-6 victory.

This time, Hahnville once again had several opportunities to win the game.

Before scoring on a Dillon Boudreaux double in the third, the Tigers had chances to get on the board in both the first and second innings, getting men on first and second with no outs in both frames. In fact, Hahnville’s lead-off batter reached base in five innings.

But the Tigers couldn’t get them in. Overall, Hahnville was 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position.
Destrehan’s two runs were unearned in the fourth, thanks to three errors by Hahnville.

Infield errors by the Tigers allowed both Kurt McCune and Devin Damare to reach base. In between their at-bats, Zack Schnexnaydre was hit by a pitch. Brett Hebert then delivered a two out, two strike single to center, scoring both McCune and Schnexnaydre, whose slide at home jarred the ball loose.
Those would prove to be all the runs the Wildcats needed for the victory.

“We really didn’t play well defensively and those errors killed us,” Hahnville head coach Kade Rogers said. “Give credit to Destrehan though, they did what they needed to do to get the win.”

Though he suffered the loss, Hahnville’s Ryne Robert was very effective against the Wildcats, allowing only six hits and two unearned runs.

“Robert pitched well,” Rogers said. “It was definitely well enough to win.”
