Hahnville Boys’ Golf wins title

Bordelon leads the way

Hahnville Boys’ Golf Team took home the Division I Region III Class 5-A district title the past week at their home course, Willowdale Country Club. The defending state champ distanced themselves from the field with a strong team performance. With a team score of 309, the nearest competitor was Terrebonne High School, who finished second with a score of 327. Assumption took third place with a score of 345, and South Lafourche High School finished fourth with a score of 345.

“We haven’t done the best job of putting four good scores together this year, but when we do we’ve got the team to compete,”said Coach Ron Cantrelle.

During the district tournament, it was the team effort that proved successful. Leading for the Tigers was Junior Dayton Bordelon, shooting the tournament low 74, tying Chance Fitch from Terrebone.

Hahnville golfers, Senior Seth Dufrene and Junior Derek Bonvillain, each shot a 78, keeping the team score low enough for victory. Rounding out the Tigers, sophomore Andrew Noto finished with a round of 79, and freshman Caleb Lambert shot a 87.

Next up for the squad is the State Tournament at Old Oaks Country Club in Shreveport.

Returning four of his starters – Borderlon, Defrene, Bonvillian and Noto — from last years’ state championship team, Cantrelle liked the boys’ chances this week at the tournament. “We are very confident that we can be competitive again this year,” said Cantrelle.
