Grand slam leads Hahnville past Dutchtown

The Hahnville Lady Tigers picked up a huge win Tuesday, knocking off Dutchtown 6-4 thanks to a grand slam by Elise deBruler.

Dutchtown took a 3-1 lead over Hahnville after the first inning due to a two-run home run and added another run in the bottom of the fifth to go up 4-1.

But with the bases loaded in the top of the sixth, deBruler jacked a home run that gave her team a 5-4 lead.

The Lady Tigers added a final run on a hit by Courtney Dutreix to put the game away.

DeBruler went 4-for-4 with four RBIs, while Dutreix was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Hahnville junior pitcher Hannah Haydel picked up the win and improved to 15-2 on the season.

With the victory, the Lady Tigers are now 2-1 in district play.

Their only district loss came by way of a 5-4 defeat dealt by 15-2 East Ascension.

Last Thursday, the Lady Tigers picked up their first district win by blanking rival Destrehan 9-0.

Haydel pitched a no-hitter in the game and struck out four.

With Haydel mowing down the competition, the Lady Tigers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning before adding a run in both the fourth and fifth frames. Hahnville then exploded for four runs in the sixth to put the game away.

Hope Mair led the Lady Tigers from the plate, finishing 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Amye Barre had two hits and two RBIs, while Taylor Webre and Alexandra Friloux also had two hits.

Abby Hall suffered the loss for the Lady Cats.

“Hannah has been good of late,” Hahnville head coach Kenneth Vial said of his pitcher’s no-hitter. “She was in control.”

And Vial was proud of how his hitters took advantage of the situation and how good his club has been defensively.

“We hit the ball and forced them into some bad situations,” he said. “Defensively, we have only made nine errors in 16 games.”

Hahnville will host St. Amant on Thursday at 4 p.m. and will travel to West Ouachita for a tournament this weekend.
