Gold MEDALIST

Track and field hurdler Brandon Singleton takes first place at the 2008 AAU Junior Olympics

The AAU Junior Olympic Games, which were held in Detroit this year, are known as the largest national multi-sport event for youth in the United States. The nationally-known games have become the showcase event of the AAU sports program and this year Luling’s Brandon Singleton snatched the gold medal in the 11 and 12 year old division for his strides during the hurdle competition.

“Brandon has competed in the AAU competitions for two years,” said Nate Singleton, Brandon’s father. “He first ran in 2007 and helped the his team win gold in the 4×1-meter relay where the team received the best record in the country.”

The regional team that Brandon is part of, SACTS – Save A Child Through Sports, is comprised of athletes from St. Charles Parish and surrounding parishes and competes in the Junior Olympics annually.

Nate says that his son’s track and field team won the Southeast Louisiana region in order to travel to the games.

“Our team, along with Brandon, worked really hard eliminating the competition and making their way to the national games,” said Nate.

“And my wife, Kim, and I are so proud of our son and look forward to future meets with SACTS.”
