Former Destrehan quarterback Marquise Darensbourg transferred to East St. John in February but was recently ruled ineligible to play for the 2015-16 season by the Louisiana High School Athletic Association.

LHSAA Executive Director Eddie Bonine said an investigation revealed that Darensbourg “was ruled ineligible due to a transfer for athletic purposes.”

Darensbourg was expected to be East St. John’s starting quarterback in the fall for incoming head football coach Alden Foster, the former Amite coach who succeeds Philip Banko at ESJ.

Darensbourg will be a junior in the coming school year.

The 6-foot-1 passer started 14 of 15 games for Destrehan last season while splitting duties for much of the year with Kohen Granier, who will also be a junior this fall. Granier, however, drew his first start of the season in the Class 5A state championship game, which saw DHS fall to Acadiana 23-7. The duo combined to complete 16 of 29 pass attempts for 168 yards in that game, with Darensbourg coming off the bench to relieve Granier.

Last season, Destrehan went 14-1 overall. Darensbourg completed 100 of 163 passes for 1,396 yards, 14 touchdowns and five interceptions. He also rushed 50 times for 273 yards and eight touchdowns.
