While plenty of Wildcats posted strong statistical nights Friday at Central Lafourche, two numbers stood alone on this night: 20 and 100.

Destrehan (6-0, 3-0) earned its 20th consecutive victory, its winning streak still tops in the state as it dominated on the road to earn a 51-0 victory. In the process, the Wildcats’ Marcus Scott reached a major career milestone as his team secured the 100th victory in his prep head coaching career.

“It feels good,” Scott said. “I’m happy because on my current staff, I have several coaches who started with me (at West Jefferson), and the fact we were able to get that first one together and now you fast forward so many years and here we are.”

Scott credited all of his coaching staff members, those head coaches who he served as an assistant under, and the players at West Jefferson, John Ehret and now at Destrehan over the years for making it possible.

“It’s a product of their hard work,” Scott said. “I’m out in front, but I represent so many people and our program represents so many people – it’s truly a team effort.”

DHS quarterback Jackson Fields and wide receiver Jabari Mack were among the brightest stars in the win. Fields passed for 200 yards and four touchdowns with Mack as his favorite target Friday, the latter hauling in two touchdowns and tallying over 100 receiving yards – Mack also added a 46-yard rushing touchdown. Shane Lee also punched in a score, tallying 88 yards on just five carries.

Destrehan’s receiving corps has seen big nights from several players over the past few weeks, and while this was Mack’s night, Greg Wilford, Johnnie Thiel IV and Phillip Wright III all made an impact on Friday.

“I think having a lot of different guys that (Fields) can feel comfortable with is a big key,” said Scott. “He can truly take what the defense presents. That takes a lot of stress off of him, off of the kids and off of the play calling. I’ve been happy to see our progression for sure.”

Shining just as brightly as a unit was the Destrehan defense, which recorded a shutout for the second consecutive week. Destrehan has outscored its previous two opponents – somewhat fittingly, given the achievement Scott reached – 100-0.

“We were threatened a few times and you want to see how the kids respond in those situations,” said Scott. “How you perform under stress – that’s not just about football, but it teaches about life as well. How are you going to respond when you get into a tight situation? You have to be able to stay focused and get out of the hole.”

Central Lafourche dropped to 0-6 overall and 0-2 in District 7-5A competition.
