Jerqwinick Sandolph, Louisiana State University
Hahnville High School star defensive back Jerqwinick Sandolph signed with the LSU Tigers last Wednesday. Sandolph was joined by his parents, Melissa and Dan Hills, and Jermaine Sandolph. LSU Head Coach Les Miles on Sandolph: “We have a great tradition of quality defensive backs at LSU and we think a whole lot about Jerqwinick. He played both cornerback and safety at Hahnville and I like his physical style of play. He’s a tough guy out on the field and he has excellent foot speed and range. He doesn’t back down from anyone in run support or fighting with a receiver for the football in passing situations. We probably will look at him first at safety. We believe that Jerqwinick is the type of player that we need for our secondary and he can also be a big part of our special teams.”
Bryan Singleton, University of Houston
Destrehan High School defensive end Bryan Singleton signed with the University of Houston last Wednesday. Singleton was joined by his parents, Paula and Bryan Singleton Sr. Houston head coach Tony Levine on Singleton: “Bryan is a real good prospect that our coaches think a whole lot about. He is a fine young man, who can play multiple positions along the defensive line and he is a disruptive presence upfront. I love a big man who can move his feet and adjust quickly to what is breaking down out on the field. As a staff we all believe that Bryan is that kind of player. Big men, who are also athletic, are hard to find and we have great expectations for Bryan as a student athlete here at Houston.”
Tyren Hills, University of Louisiana at Monroe
Hahnville High School star defensive back Tyren Hills signed with the Univeristy of Louisiana at Monroe last Wednesday. Hills is joined by his parents, DeJuan and Samantha Hills. UL-Monroe Head Coach Todd Berry on Hills: “What first jumped out at me about Tyren is his size and also his leaping skills. He is a real good overall athlete, who also plays basketball. I like what I see from Tryen with his foot movement skills and his ability to adjust in reverse well. He finds the ball quickly in flight. We think a lot of him and we want to see if he can handle the cornerback position, if not he looks like a natural at either of the safety spots. We think he can aid our special teams units quickly during his college career and that’s an area we want immediate improvement in.”
Dillan Dent, Missouri Southern State UniversityDestrehan High School defensive back/quarterback Dillan Dent signed with Missouri Southern State University. Dent is joined by his mother, Yolanda. Dent threw for 683 yards and seven touchdowns . He also rushed for 115 yards and a touchdown for the Wildcats in 2011.
Johnell Celestan, University of TulsaHahnville High School star defensive back Johnell Celestan signed with the University of Tulsa. Celestan was joined by his parents, Monique and Johnell Celestan Sr. Tulsa Head Coach Bill Blankenship on Celestan: “Johnell is a pure speed guy. He was one of the fastest players in all of our camps last summer. He is a bit of a late developer, but he played on a very good team at Hahnville and he was well schooled in high school. He really caught our eyes late as a junior and he had a standout senior season. We want him to be a cornerback here at Tulsa. He is a big cornerback with long arms and real good recovery speed. It’s very hard to find six-foot corners that have the speed that Johnell has. He displays all the skills we crave and he has a strong work ethic also.”
Dereck Robinson, Southeastern LouisianaDestrehan High School defensive tackle Dereck Robinson signed with Southeastern Louisiana University last Wednesday. Robinson was joined by his parents Shantell and Landis Robinson. Southeast Louisiana Head Coach Ron Roberts on Robinson: “He’s a football player. No question about that. Dereck is short and stocky, but he has great instincts and he tracks the ball in an instant. We love his physicality. Robinson is always on his feet and he delivers a real hard shot. I really think he has a chance to play early for us. The young man makes plays and sometimes you can get caught up with numbers about how tall or how fast someone has to be. We want to be a tougher team on defense and we feel Dereck can be part of what we as a coaching staff want to emphasize and that is a quick flow to the ballcarrier.”
Ronnie Green, College of the Desert CaliforniaHahnville High School receiver Ronnie Green signed with the College of the Desert California last Wednesday. Green was joined by his mother, Charlotte. Green was named to the All-District second team and was named MVP of the HTV-10/Lions Club Bayou-River Showdown in December.
Robert Lay, College of the Desert California
Hahnville High School offensive lineman Robert Lay signed with the College of the Desert California last Wednesday. Lay began his high school career as a defensive lineman, but switched to offensive lineman when asked to help the team by Tiger head coach Lou Valdin.
