Dutchtown proves too much to handle for DHS boys, girls

The Dutchtown Griffins shocked Destrehan last week, beating the boys 56-50 only two weeks after getting blown out by the Wildcats.

Destrehan defeated Dutchtown 66-37 in their first district game of the year, but this time the Griffins were ready.

While the Wildcats led 10-9 after the first quarter, Dutchtown came out firing in the second to take a 23-20 lead. In the third, Dutchtown once again outscored Destrehan, this time 18-17. The Wildcats and Griffins went toe-to-toe in the final period, with each team scoring 13 points, but that wasn’t enough for the Wildcats.

B.J. Singleton led Destrehan with 21 points, while Ryan Derbes added eight. Six of Derbes’ points came on two 3-pointers.

With the win, Destrehan falls to 21-7 on the year, while Dutchtown’s record stands at 12-10.

The Destrehan girls also fell to the Lady Griffins, 35-40.
The Lady Griffins roared out to a 11-3 lead after the first quarter, and though the Lady Wildcats had a strong second quarter to get within four points, they were never able to make up the difference in the second half.

Paige Rochelle led the Lady Wildcats with 18 points, while Areion Banks chipped in with eight points.
