The Destrehan baseball team got off to a great start during opening weekend, scoring 33 runs in four games while beating Parkview Baptist, Dutchtown and Catholic. Their only loss came to St. Amant in a close 6-5 game.

After one inning, Destrehan and Parkview were tied at 4-4, but the Wildcats scored four runs in the final two innings to claim a 10-7 victory in their season opener.
Destrehan jumped out to a 4-0 lead after loading the bases and drawing four walks in the opening frame. Parkview bounced back to tie the game in the bottom of the inning, but the Wildcats took a 5-4 lead after a double by Brennan Breaud in the third inning.
Destrehan led 6-5 after a sacrifice fly by Brock Benedetto in the fifth, and blew the game open in the sixth by scoring three more runs.
Jacob Cambre hit a sacrifice to start the scoring and Hunter Abadie followed with a sacrifice bunt to put Destrehan up 8-6. Breaud recorded a bunt single to give Destrehan a 9-6 lead.
The Wildcats final run of the game came in the seventh when Sam Steib hit a grounder to first base that drove in Benedetto.
Breaud led Destrehan from the plate, finishing 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Cambre and Abadie also had two RBIs while Logan Krajcer, Benedetto, Steib and Louis Kieffer each drove in a run.
Tyler Winters picked up the win after keeping Parkview hitless for two innings.
Destrehan 6 Dutchtown 2
After falling behind 2-1 in the first inning, the Wildcats cruised down the stretch to knock off Dutchtown, 6-2.Breaud singled to left to tie the game at 2-2 in the second, and Destrehan stretched their lead to 4-2 after an RBI single by Cambre and a sacrifice by Randy Harvey.
In the fourth, Destrehan took a 6-2 lead thanks to a two-run home run by Kade Granier.
Granier led the Wildcats from the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Cambre, Breaud, Steib and Harvey each drove in a run.
Nick McClendon picked up the win after giving up three hits and two runs in five innings.
Destrehan 5 St. Amant 6
Destrehan’s sole loss of the weekend came in a 6-5 heartbreaker to St. Amant.
The Wildcats stormed out to a 3-0 lead in the second, with Kieffer sailing a sacrifice fly to start the scoring. Nathan Pilutti jacked a triple to bring in another run and then stole home to put his team up big early.
St. Amant got two of those runs back in the bottom of the inning before taking a 4-3 lead in the third.
The Wildcats tied the game at 4-4 to start the fourth thanks to an RBI single by Austin McDonald, however, St. Amant drove in two more runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 6-4 lead.
Granier’s second home run of the weekend cut into the St. Amant lead, but the Wildcats were kept off the board in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.
Granier finished 2-for-3 to lead the Wildcats from the plate. McDonald suffered the loss after giving up eight hits and six runs in three innings.
Destrehan 12 Catholic 4
After suffering their first loss, Destrehan wasted little time getting back on track by blowing past Catholic, 12-4.The Wildcats led 2-0 after one inning and pulled away in the second with a three-run home run by Granier.
In the fourth, the Wildcats increased their lead to 8-2 after a sacrifice by Cambre, a single by Steib and a wild pitch.
Destrehan put the exclamation point on the victory in the sixth with four more runs. Benedetto doubled to give the Wildcats a 9-4 lead and Harvey singled to put Destrehan up 10-4.
A sacrifice bunt by Pilutti and a grounder by Breaud brought in the final two runs.
Granier went 4-for-4 in the game with three RBIs and his third home run of the season. Cole Martin earned the win after giving up six hits and four runs in 4.2 innings.
