Destrehan’s Jordan Jefferson wins Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year

Destrehan High School standout quarterback Jordan Jefferson is the 2007 winner of the Gatorade Circle of Champions Player of the Year award for the state of Louisiana.

Jefferson, who has led the Wildcats to a 14-0 mark this season and a win in the 2007 5-A Championship game against Acadiana High School, won the prestigious honor this month.

The 6-4, 210-pound quarterback, who has passed for over 2,500 yards in 2007, has verbally committed to play his college ball at LSU.

He will join a Tiger squad who has three other former Louisiana Gatorade Circle of Champion Award winners in wide receiver Early Doucet (2003), quarterback Ryan Perrilloux (2004) and halfback Charles Scott, who won the award in 2005.

Last Friday Jefferson completed 12 of his 20 throws for 236 yards and two touchdowns, including one touchdown strike to fellow LSU commitment wide receiver Tim Molton for 75-yards in the Wildcats 59-7 victory over Westgate High School.

He also threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to standout end Damaris Johnson.

Last year’s Gatorade Circle of Champion Award winner was Catholic High School in Baton Rouge defensive end Jason Peters who signed on to play college football at Georgia Tech.
