The Destrehan Wildcats blew right by East Ascension Friday night, rolling up 46 points and shutting down the Spartans to move to 8-0 on the season. Meanwhile, Hahnville climbed their way back from a 21-3 halftime deficit against East St. John to send the game to overtime, but couldn’t score in the extra period and fell 35-28, dropping their season record to 5-3.
Antonio Parker may not play offense, but the senior cornerback scored 14 first quarter points for the Wildcats – thanks to a 60-yard punt return and a 39-yard interception return.
Henry Lennox also scored twice, on a 22-yard catch from Wynrick Smothers and a 56-yard run, while Marcus Lane caught another touchdown pass from Smothers and Otis Ben had a 25-yard interception return to finish out the scoring.
For Hahnville, Blaise Dempster and Guiseppe Crovetto proved to be a dangerous combination throughout the second half, making East St. John pay as the two brought the Tigers back from an 18-point deficit. Crovetto tied up the score at 28-28 by diving into the endzone on a two-point conversion, but in overtime, East St. John was able to take a 35-28 lead on a short touchdown run.
Hahnville couldn’t answer and their drive ended at the six-yard line.
