Destrehan thumps Hahnville 33-7

Destrehan struggled to find an offensive rhythm in the first half, but exploded in the second on their way to a 33-7 victory that keeps them undefeated at 5-0.

Hahnville hung tough in the first and second quarters, and managed to keep the Wildcat offense at bay throughout that time, but seemed to wear down as the game progressed.

Destrehan quarterback Wynrick Smothers got the Wildcats on the board first, slashing through defenders and following his blockers down field for a 33-yard touchdown that occured with 4:02 left in the first quarter.

The Wildcats wouldn’t score again until Ryan Rome knocked a 36-yard field goal through the uprights with just 3 seconds left in the half.

The Wildcats came out on fire in the second half, with Rufus Porter intercepting a Guiseppe Crovetto pass and returning it 44-yards in the third to stretch the Destrehan lead to 17-0.

Hahnville fought back on their next possession, with runs by Jai Steib and Alfred Blue systematically moving the Tigers down the field. Steib would find paydirt after busting through the Destrehan line for a 12-yard touchdown with 7:38 left to go in the third.

But Destrehan answered right back.

Smothers hit Braondon Armstrong for a 20-yard touchdown, then a high snap on a Hahnville punt increased the Wildcat lead to 26-7.

Smothers then iced the game with his fourth touchdown of the night, connecting with Armstrong once again for a 33-yard score.
