Destrehan surges to 5th straight win

Damien Richard of Destrehan

Make it 5 in a row for Destrehan as it put things away in the first half Friday night in a 46-7 victory at Central Lafourche.

Destrehan (6-2, 4-0) is alone in first place in District 8-5A, one week before a pivotal clash with rival Hahnville on the road.

The Wildcats certainly ride into that one with momentum. On Friday night DHS led Central 40-0 at halftime. Over the course of this 5-game win streak, Destrehan is averaging 51.6 points per game.

Though Destrehan piled up points in the first half, head coach Marcus Scott noted it took a little bit of time to get rolling on a windy night.

“We were able to win the toss and play the wind how we wanted to start the game off. We actually started a little slow, but once we got going we were able to create some distance there. As far as execution, there were some things we can improve on, and that’s always the case whenever you get on the field.”

With the big Halloween night Hahnville game looming next week, Scott said the Wildcats haven’t had much of a chance to think about it yet, keeping the focus on each matchup as it happens. But he expects a big game atmosphere, as always.

“We lock in and stay focused on one game at a time, and show each opponent the proper amount of respect. I think the kids have done a good job of not looking ahead … it always is (a big game atmosphere against Hahnville). It’s always great for the community and something everyone looks forward to each and every year.”

Jackson Fields completed 15-of-16 passes for 274 yards and three touchdowns, finding Damien Richard, Jaylan Ash and Coryan Armstrong for scores.

Jabari Mack led Destrehan in receiving with five catches for 77 yards. He also rushed for a touchdown. Ash caught three passes for 65 yards.

Malachi Dabney rushed five times for 53 yards and two touchdowns. Jordan Zeringue rushed twice for 21 yards and a score.
