Destrehan could have had a letdown game coming off of its rivalry win over Hahnville last week. But the Wildcats made sure that wasn’t in the cards.
Kohen Granier tossed four touchdown passes for the second consecutive week—finding three different receivers — as Destrehan quickly put away host Terrebonne in District 7-5A action, 47-21.
“We came out and hit on all cylinders offensively,” Destrehan coach Stephen Robicheaux said. “We made a big play on special teams and defensively we got it done. I was a little disappointed on how we ended (Terrebonne scored two late touchdowns) but that’s something we can work on getting better at. It was a good win for us.”
DHS (5-0) racked up 20 first quarter points, getting off to a fast start as has become customary this season. Granier found John Williams—another familiar refrain—for a 28-yard touchdown pass five minutes into the game. Granier later hit Colby Duhon for a 7-yard score before the Wildcats’ defense chimed in, Kendall Anderson scoring from 20 yards out.
Destrehan hit a bit of a lull before finishing the first half with a flurry. With four minutes to go before halftime, Granier found Michael Young for a 33-yard scoring pass, then it was Granier to Tramaine Armstrong for a 28-yard touchdown pass in the final minute of the first half.
“Coach (Greg Boyne, DHS offensive coordinator) liked what he saw and we carried out the game plan,” Granier said. “Our offensive line has just been getting better and better each week. Everyone’s in the right place and making plays.”
DHS led 33-7 at halftime. Kristian Mosely and Will Sirmon each added long scoring runs, of 51 and 60 yards respectively, to round out the Wildcats’ scoring.
Joseph Alvis scored two touchdowns to lead Terrebonne (2-3).
Destrehan will host East St. John next week.
