Destrehan looks to shake off a string of recent losses as it enters a stretch of six games in eight days, starting with a district home battle with H.L. Bourgeois.
The Wildcats will face Haynes Academy Friday, Central Lafourche Saturday, South Lafourche Monday, East St. John Tuesday and Iowa Wednesday. It isn’t quite a home stand, as Destrehan (13-10) will travel to South Lafourche for Monday’s game, but the remaining five of the six will be at Destrehan.
Two Thibodaux runs in the sixth inning sunk the Wildcats in District 8-5A play Tuesday as the Tigers won a 3-1 game at home.
THS earned the win behind a complete game, 12 strikeout performance by Northwestern State committed left-hander Brody Trosclair, who allowed one run on three hits and three walks to earn the win.
Will Muller took the loss in relief for DHS. Payton Stubbs went 4.1 innings as starter and allowed one run on one hit while striking out nine and walking three.
Offensively, Benjamin LaPlace led the way for Destrehan, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Chase Marcotte doubled in the game.
There were early fireworks in Destrehan’s 7-6 loss to Lakeshore – the teams combined to score 11 runs over the first three innings alone. DHS took a 5-0 lead before a big four-run inning from Lakeshore in the bottom of the third helped even things out.
With the score tied 6-6 in the bottom of the seventh, Grant Bouillon of Lakeshore earned a walk-off RBI single to secure the win for his team.
Jack Conravey took the losson the mound for Destrehan, allowing two runs on five hits in 4.2 innings. Marcotte went 2-for-4 with an RBI for DHS. Stubbs and Chase Mire also drove in runs.
When his team embraces it, aggression is Destrehan’s strength says head coach Chris Mire.
“Being the aggressor … no tip-toeing, worrying about what ifs. The strength of this team is guys come out, play hard, play fast and apply pressure – and that’s exactly what we want to do,” Mire said. “But,” he added, “we have to do it consistently.”
The Wildcats’ most recent stretch has been its roughest, but this is a team that’s shown it can string together victories, with two five-game winning streaks already thus far. Destrehan recently scored an 8-4 win over Northshore, avenging an 8-0 loss to the Panthers from a day prior.
“That’s been the story in this series with Northshore for three years now. They win the first and we win the second, ever since we started this series with them,” Mire said.
The first of the two games saw a couple of defensive mistakes balloon into a big, game-shifting inning for Northshore as it posted seven runs in the second inning.
A day later, however, Payton Stubbs stepped up in a huge way.
Stubbs drove in five runs and earned the win in a strong effort on the mound as Destrehan captured an 8-4 win over the Panthers.
“We challenged him to come out and set the tone, be that senior captain on the mound,” Mire said. “He had a really good game and did exactly that.
“Our offense got back to what it did earlier in the year. Get out to a good lead, land the first punch and continue to stretch the lead and not let them get back in it.”
Stubbs and Chase Marcotte have been big producers for the offense this season.
Marcotte leads the Wildcats in batting average and Mire said he’s been consistent all season long.
“He’s a really good hitter. He’s had success every step of the way,” Mire said of the sophomore.
Stubbs, meanwhile, played extensively last season but was not an everyday starter. That’s changed in 2025, as he’s broken through with his bat.
“I feel like he gets an extra base hit every game,” Mire said. “He’s delivered for us.
“The lineup as a whole has done a good job … on any given day, someone different might step up and be that guy. But on the year, those two have led the way for us.”
The Wildcats have leaned on its pitching staff and defense for years, but this past offseason there was a notable focus on getting the Wildcats’ offense to the next level, after it struggled at times a year ago.
“Offense was a big focus,” Mire said. “We’re trying to do a little more to help our staff. And our offense carried the load early this season. As we’ve gone along, we’ve needed our staff to hold teams at bay … against better teams, you won’t score six or seven runs every single game,” Mire said. “We’ve had a lot of guys chipping in.”
In the win over Northshore, Bennett McNamara, Benjamin LaPlace and Stubbs each had two hits in the game. Jack Conravey earned the save.
