The Destrehan offense didn’t march up and down the field on Dutcthtown on Friday like they did in their 45-14 win against the Griffins earlier in the season, but the end result was the same.
The Wildcat offense, which was shut out in the first half for the first time all season, responded in the second behind three touchdowns from quarterback Donovan Isom for a 23-7 win.
Destrehan’s only points in the first half came when Dutchtown quarterback Brandt Fritsche was called for intentional grounding from his own goal line, which resulted in a safety and gave the Wildcats a 2-0 lead in the second quarter.
That’s how things would stay until the third.
Isom, who struggled to get into a rhythm in the first half, connected with Tremaine Armstrong on a 37-yard touchdown to extend the Wildcat lead to 9-0.
Dutchtown fought back in the fourth, scoring on a 29-yard run to cut into the Destrehan advantage. However, the Wildcats struck back quickly after Isom and Armstrong combined for another touchdown, this one a 51 yarder that put the Wildcats up 16-7.
On Dutchtown’s next possession, Raekwon Morgan picked off a Fritsche pass to set up the final Destrehan score, a 5-yard run by Isom that iced the Wildcats 23-7 win.
Destrehan will travel to take on No. 1 Acadiana on Friday, Dec. 6. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
