Destrehan, Hahnville both roll to wins

Wildcats top Ehret 35-6, Tigers over Walker 39-8

Destrehan and Hahnville both picked up big victories Friday night, with the Wildcats stomping over John Ehret 35-6 and the Tigers blowing past O.P. Walker 39-8.

Destrehan wide receiver Kyron King gave his team an early first quarter lead after taking an option pitch from Dillan Dent and flying down the sideline for a 27-yard score. Wildcat kicker Andrew Wyatt then gave Destrehan a 10-0 advantage in the second quarter by nailing a 36-yard field goal.

But the Wildcats couldn’t keep Ehret off the board on the next possession, as Curtis Ashford connected with Mike Alexander on a 22-yard pass to bring the Patriots to within four at 10-6.

After that score, the Destrehan defense began to take over.

The Wildcats forced a safety with 40 seconds left in the half, setting up a 44-yard touchdown from Taylor Dunn to Henry Lenox to give Destrehan an 18-6 lead at the break.

In the second half, the Ehret offensive line proved no match for the Destrehan defensive front. The Wildcats continually applied pressure on Ashford, which gave the Destrehan offense great field position in the third and fourth quarters.

The offense responded, scoring two touchdowns in the third on a 7-yard run by Kevin Smith and a 5-yard run by Lenox.

Wyatt ended the scoring with a 25-yard field goal in the fourth that put the Wildcats on top 35-6.

Meanwhile, Hahnville bounced back from last week’s heartbreaking loss to Lutcher by rolling over Walker using a solid running game and an accurate

passing attack.

Alfred Blue scored three times in the first half, with the first coming on a 3-yard run in the first quarter.

Ensminger then connected with James Butler on a 4-yard touchdown pass to give the Tigers a 13-0 lead.

In the second quarter, Blue scored twice more – rumbling through the Walker line for touchdowns of 3 and 5 yards.

The onslaught continued in the second half, with Ensminger firing two more touchdowns to complete the 39-8 rout.
