Despite rain, 38 boats fish for Frankie

On Saturday, the bass fishermen of the area rose to the occasion.

Despite strong winds and pouring rain, 38 boats launched at Pier 90 for the start of the Fishing for Frankie Bass Tournament.

At 4 a.m., Audrey Raziano and her amazing crew of workers had everything ready for the 6 a.m. shotgun start. The lightening flashed and the thunder roared when the shotgun sounded.

St. Charles Parish Sheriff deputies released five boats at a time for the start of the 2nd Annual Fishing For Frankie Bass Tournament. While the fishermen fished, the work crews prepared a roast pig, white beans, jambalaya, pastalaya, and desserts for the afternoon festivities.

The storms in the area showed no mercy for Audrey’s troopers.

As the morning went on, the water continued to rise until it reached the building at Pier 90. That did not stop the tournament. The fishermen came in around noon, weighed in, and stayed to eat, drink, and participate in the auction even though they had to walk through ankle deep water.

Dustin Lowry and Brad Louviere managed to bring in an 8.15-pound string to claim 1st place and $800. Dustin also took the Big Bass spot with a 3.74-pound bass for $135.

They had fished the middle of Lake Cataouatche around the edges of the large grass beds. Both fishermen used the junebug worms rigged Texas style to catch their fish.

Other winners were:

•2nd place – Bobby and Robert Torres (8.06 lbs.) – $400

•3rd place -David and Greg Bourdonnay (6.47 lbs.) – $300

•4th place – Vernon Silver (5.15 lbs.) – $175

•5th place – Massimo Vasquez Jr and Billy Frazier (5.11 lbs.) – $100

•6th place – Jacob Dufrene and Chad Colomber (4.73 lbs.) – $75

•7th place – Charles Garcia and Gary Henria (4.37) – $50

“On behalf of my brother and my entire family, please accept our heartfelt thanks for your participation and for braving the rain and high tide,” Audrey Raziano said. “I would like to thank Courtney, Roxie, the harbor master, local businesses, and to all who donated their time to make this event a success. “We hope to see each of you next year.”
