Boutte teen catches big tuna at rodeo

Dalton Bergeron, of Boutte, placed third in the yellowfin tuna division at the International Grand Isle Tarpon Rodeo.

Bergeron’s tuna weighed in at 81 pounds and 12 ounces. This was the first tuna Bergeron has caught and his first Tarpon Rodeo. He fished with the team Down With the Sickness.

The tuna was caught 95 miles offshore in the late afternoon so fishing team captains Will and Jessica Sigmon put the hammer down to make it before the scales closed at 6 p.m.

Bergeron weighed his tuna in at 5:30 p.m. and was ranked second behind Pete Harmon, of Luling. By 6 p.m. both anglers got bumped down a spot with Harmon finishing second and Bergeron coming in third on the leaderboard.

Bergeron said he was thrilled with his first yellowfin tuna and the success he had during his first Tarpon Rodeo.
