Basketball team wins international championship

The St. Charles Parish 11-12 year old girls All-Star basketball team won the Biddy International Championship after beating New Orleans by a 52-50 score in overtime.

The St. Charles All Stars played six tournament games during the week and rolled through the competition, knocking off Slidell, Finland and JPRD East while focusing on one main goal – a championship.

Though both New Orleans and St. Charles battled back and forth during the third and fourth quarters of the final game, huge plays were made by Cara Ursin and Chrislyn Boyd along with their lock-down defender Krysten Kenner.

“Our goal was to keep them out of the paint,” Head coach Calvin Ursin said. “They made baskets when they needed to and made their free throws down the stretch.”

Prior to the international tournament, St. Charles hosted regionals at R. K. Smith in March where they were declared Regional Champions  after defeating Terrebonne 43-33.

This is the first time in the history of St. Charles Parish  that a girls basketball team has won an international tournament.

Additionally, Four girls received the Biddy International All American award; Chrislyn Boyd, Jerlicia Morris, Brianna Thompson and Cara Ursin, who also was awarded the “Miss Biddy” plaque for outstanding sportsmanship.
