After falling in championship, DHS gets back to winning ways

The Destrehan Wildcats shut down South Terrebonne Monday night on their way to a 45-27 victory.

Destrehan (6-2) jumped out to a 14-4 lead after the first quarter and stretched their advantage to 25-6 at the break. South Terrebonne played much better in the second half and actually outscored the Wildcats 21-20 in the final two quarters, but the Wildcats were able to hold on for the win.

Destrehan’s B.J. Singleton led his team with 11 points, while Gary Johnson added 9 and Kevin Smith chipped in with 8. Nick Knight and Donovon Isom both scored 4 points, while Jared Mack had 3 and Keigan Joseph finished with 2 points.

The Wildcat victory comes after a tough loss in the championship game of the Skipper Classic. Destrehan won the tournament last year, and advanced to the final game after Singleton’s 17 points paced his team past Mandeville, 47-43.

In the championship against Salmen, the Wildcats fell 61-52.

Salmen took a 28-22 lead into the break, outscored the Wildcats 13-9 in the third period and held off a late Destrehan rally.

Singleton led all scorers with 18 points in the championship game.
