7 Tigers will take part in state indoor track championship

Seven members of the Hahnville indoor track team will be compete in the LHSAA Indoor Track Championships on Saturday, Feb. 23.

For the girls, Ralea Scott qualified at the No. 6 spot in shot put with a throw of 34 feet, 2.5 inches. Sophomore Breanne Bias will compete in both the long jump and the triple jump. Her qualifying jumps of 15 feet, 10 inches in the long jump and 34 feet, 2.5 inches in the triple jump were good enough for the No. 8 and No. 6 spots, respectively.

On the men’s side, there will be one Tiger in the field events and four in the running events. Junior Lamar Foster will represent the Tigers in the triple jump, qualifying in the No. 13 spot with a jump of 41 feet, 1.25 inches.

In the 55 meter hurdles, there are two Tigers competing. Sophomore Larry Boyd and junior Cantrell Picou qualified with times of 8.59 (No. 17) and 8.97 (No. 20), respectively.

Twin Tigers Beau and Bryce Robinson, coming off a season in which they were named to the Louisiana All-State cross country team, are currently qualified in the No. 5 and No. 6 spots. With qualifying times of 10 minutes, 13.81 seconds and 10 minutes, 14.79 seconds, the juniors are poised to make a charge at the championship.

For indoor track, the schools in the state are split into two divisions. Division 1 encompasses 4A and 5A schools and Division 2 is comprised of schools 3A and smaller. To qualify for the championships, an athlete had to be ranked in the top 16 in the field events and the top 14 for the running events in each division. The only exceptions are the 55m dash and the 55m hurdles, where the top 20 are taken in each division.
