4 Tigers, Wildcats named 1st Team All-State by Louisiana Sports Writers Association

The Louisiana Sports Writers Association released their all-state list this week and a number of high school baseball and softball players from St. Charles Parish were named.

Kade Granier, 1B, Destrehan

Destrehan junior Kade Granier pitched his team to six wins while batting .411 with a team-leading 42 RBIs. From the stripe, Granier finished with a 1.27 ERA and struck out 57 in 55 innings of work. From the plate he knocked 25 singles, 12 doubles, a triple and a home run. He also scored 25 runs for the Wildcats and had a slugging percentage of .554. “He had a great season as a first baseman and hit .411. As a pitcher he helped us as well,” Destrehan head coach Marty Luquet said. “He is one of the top prospects in Louisiana in 2014.” Granier has already drawn interest from top programs such as LSU and Alabama.

Brooks Vial, P, Hahnville

Hahnville senior Brooks Vial did it all for the Tigers in 2013. He finished with a 6-3 record from the stripe, striking out 64 and ending the season with a 1.49 ERA. From the plate, Vial finished with a .327 batting average, drove in 22 runs, hit 2 home runs and knocked 5 doubles. “He did everything for us,” Hahnville head coach David Baudry said. “He was a team leader, pitched in the bigger games and got key hits when we needed them. He truly had a great year on the field and he does so much more off the field as well. He was very important to us in all aspects.” Vial will play at Delgado next season.

Lauren Beadle, P, Hahnville

Only a sophomore, Lauren Beadle pitched every game for Hahnville, finishing with a 29-4 record with 173 strikeouts in 205 innings pitched. Her ERA was 1.93. “Going into the season, my biggest concern was her consistency,” Hahnville head coach Kenneth Vial said. “She proved through the year that wasn’t really a concern. She had a great year and kept us in games. When you win 29 games in a season, you are going to get recognized and she deserves it. She was also a great team leader and led with her heart.”

Lauren Simar, 3B, Hahnville

Hahnville junior third baseman Lauren Simar put up some gaudy offensive numbers in 2013. She led the Lady Tigers with an exceptional .465 batting average and also led the team with 39 RBIs and 37 runs scored. Simar blasted 7 home runs, jacked 3 triples and knocked 15 doubles to lead her squad in every major offensive category. “She is a very dedicated, consistent player,” Hahnville head coach Kenneth Vial said. “She is an awesome defensive player and her slugging percentage was .853 – she was almost at one base per at bat. That’s unbelievable. We expect more of the same next year.”
