4-Hers have a blast at sports-shooting workshop

Seven St. Charles 4-H members accompanied by three adult volunteers and 4-H Agent, David Pichon, attended a Shooting Sports Workshop at Regalia Park in Reserve. The kids learned how to shoot an air rifle, BB gun, a bow and a shotgun – and also learned about the safety issues associated with each firearm.

Through the use of these firearms as educational tools, the young shooters learn how to focus as well as learn self discipline and behavior.

Members who attend the workshops are also eligible to attend 4-H District and State Shooting Competitions held each year in the April and May.

The 4-H shooting sports program is conducted through the National Shooting Sports Foundation and covers other shooting disciplines such as 22 rifle and blackpowder.

The archery discipline includes basic bows, recurve bows and compound bows.

The workshop was conducted in partnership with St. Charles and St. John 4-H programs.

Agents David Pichon and Kelly Camp helped to plan and conduct the workshop along with volunteers from both Parishes.

Any student between 9 and 19 years of age who is interested in joining the 4-H Shooting Sports Program should contact the 4-H Office in their Parish.

Adult volunteers are always needed to teach and assist with the program.

You may contact 4-H Agents David Pichon at 985-785-4473 or Kelly Camp at 985-497-3261 for more information.

The 4-H programs are sponsored by the United Ways in St. Charles and St. John parishes. The 4-H program follows a non-discriminatory policy in all programs and activities.
