14-year-old All-Stars win Babe Ruth state title

The St. Charles Parish 14-year-old All-Stars recently won the 2013 Babe Ruth state championship during the state tournament in Abbeville.

After winning the state title, the team advanced to the Babe Ruth Southwest Regional Tournament, which was held in Levelland, Texas.

The team, made up of players from Destrehan and Hahnville high schools, went undefeated throughout the state tournament.

They were so dominate that they outscored their opponents 43-5. St. Charles advanced to the state title game after beating Madisonville, Ascension and New Iberia. They picked up an 8-3 win over Madisonville before cruising past both Ascension and New Iberia by scores of 18-0 and 10-0, respectively. In the championship game, the team defeated Ascension 7-2. St. Charles’ pitchers only allowed 11 hits in the four games while striking out 15. Offensively, the team caught fire early and finished with 39 hits and a team batting average of .331.
