Applicants sought for the Ethel Schoeffner Scholarship

College students who have graduated from either Destrehan High School or Hahnville High School may be eligible to apply for the Ethel Schoeffner Scholarship.

You are eligible to apply if you meet the following criteria:

• You are currently enrolled as a full-time student in a four-year education curriculum or a four-year nursing curriculum at an accredited, four-year state college or university.

• You have reached at least your second semester of the sophomore year in either education or nursing.

• You are in good standing in either the education or the nursing curriculum as certified by a letter from the College of  Education or the College of Nursing.

Application forms may be obtained from the St. Charles Parish School Board Office, 785-6289. Applications are for the 2014 fall semester, and the deadline for submitting your application and supporting documents is Thursday, June 12, 2014.  Be sure to carefully read and follow all directions provided on the application form.

Miss Ethel Schoeffner served the St. Charles Parish Public School System for 48 years, from 1917-1965, as an elementary school teacher for the major part of that time and as an elementary school principal for the latter part of her tenure at the old Norco Elementary School. Her last will and testament provided for the establishment of a scholarship trust fund for students graduating from either Destrehan High School or Hahnville High School meeting the above three criteria.

The scholarship awards $500 per semester up to a maximum of $2,500.

Miss Schoeffner touched the lives of hundreds of students and others in meaningful ways and continues to do so through her scholarship.  Applicants are provided a chance for her to touch their lives by trying out for her scholarship.

Applications and supporting documents are due in the St. Charles Parish School Board Office by Thursday, June 12.
