Schools start Aug. 13, so drive carefully

School bells are ringing today, not literally, of course, but the doors to the St. Charles halls of education will be filled with our adults of tomorrow. Which means, of course, that traffic patterns will change somewhat.

So take care as you steer your vehicles onto the roadways of the parish. There will be yellow buses picking up students and school zones ahead.

Obey the speed limits and keep a watchful eye on youngsters waiting for a ride to their classrooms. Once we get more into the school season, we will adjust to the changes but, at the beginning, extra care must be exercised.
We have a wonderful school system in St. Charles and wonderful students. There are many ways we can keep it that way.

As parents, of course, we can make sure our students are doing what is needed at home to complement teachers’ efforts. And we can volunteer to assist at school activities.

But for the next few days, let’s make sure that school traffic moves smoothly and safely. It’s the way to start the school year right.
