St. Charles Parish voters passed two bond issues Saturday which will provide funding to help keep the parish on its progressive path in providing services to the people.
The $45 million school district and $15 million hospital bond issues both passed by significant majorities.
The school issue will pay for the construction of five new wings at schools which will help reduce the use of temporary classrooms from 74 to 10. Field house expansions, renovations at several schools, construction of an arts sector at Destrehan High, incorporation of A. A. Songy into Lakewood Elementary and a kindergarten addition at Mimosa Park Elementary are also on the list. Construction of a ticket booth at Hahnville High and a locker room at Cannon Middle complete the St. Charles Parish School Board’s list of scheduled improvements.
A new outpatient medical center and a state-of-the-art cardiac catheter lab, each of which are expected to cost about $2 million, and an East Bank-based after-hours care center to cost about $6.6 million are planned for construction by the hospital.
These school and hospital expansions and improvements should help keep St. Charles Parish up-to-date in providing education to our younger population and medical attention to residents. And both of those objectives are very necessary in keeping our parish on the right road for the future.
