Pope appeals to protect Christians

The situation has become pathetic in the mid-East at the present time with hundreds of thousands of people leaving troubled Iraq where Islamic State militants are forcing Christians out of their homes in the middle of the night.

Pope Francis is seeking prayers and protection for them. He has made an appeal to the international community to help put an end to the atrocity occurring in northeastern Iraq among other places.

According to Jesuit Father Federico Lombardi, the Vatican spokesman, “Violence is not conquered by violence. Violence is conquered with peace.”

And that is where the United States of America and other democratic countries of the world must come in to enforce the charms of a peaceful world on our planet. We can’t expect every country to join us but with our togetherness, we should have the power to make it happen.

In Iraq, people have fled their villages and houses with nothing but clothes on their backs. They are facing a human catastrophe and risk a real genocide.

The scene was described as an exodus in parts of Iraq. The central Iraq government seems incapable of protecting its citizens. The situation is going from bad to worse.

The Christians are being forced toward Iraqi Kurdistan, a region already overwhelmed with displaced people.

The Christian Aid Program (CAPNI) has described how Islamic State troops have overrun villages and towns throughout the area around Dubok where people evacuated but the bishop, clergy, men and youth stayed behind to defend it.

It is like a world war developing there. And it is time for the United States of America and other countries around the globe to make a stand and set the future of this troubled world straight on a peaceful path.

It is necessary that we do this now with leadership that will bring us all together.
