Let’s give Jindal a chance

Will Bobby Jindal be our next president? Don’t hold your breath.

But there have been many upsets like that in the past and it is possible this could be one of those years. Why?

Because Jindal is a smart man and many voters would have confidence in him. He is ultra conservative, which would be to the liking of many voters.

And many elections in the past have been decided in the Iowa and New Hampshire caucuses where a brand new electorate could consider Jindal as our next president.

During the past few years, he has been campaigning for the job. And he is well aware of what it will take to face some of the turmoils that have faced our recent presidents of the past.

Jindal appears to be one of those who can face such turmoils with an open mind and one that would verify the need to seek the best solution to any international problems that face our country. There is no doubt that he believes there are good and bad ways to run a country and he would go all the way to make it the way he would think is the right way.

Certainly, many will disagree with this analysis of our governor’s ability to run a government. Much of this would rest on the fact that he appeared to take the wrong stance of some issues.

But part of Jindal’s missteps have been on state issues and as president he would have much bigger issues to contend with. They would deal with international relations that enter into differences in the ways people are expected to live in different countries.

At home in Louisiana, he only has to contend with differences in people around the state, most of whom are pretty much in agreement in how things should run in government. His task around the country and world would include many other differences that would involve nationality and questions concerning how they should live and how their choices of livelihood should revolve around it.

Bobby Jindal appears to have been interested in the presidency for some time now. Many state citizens have thought this took away from his effectiveness as a governor. But when you are looking at a higher office, it often interferes with how you are running the one you are responsible for at the time. And in a way, that reflects how democracy works. It can be a series of steps.

First, one wins a lower office and then spots one higher up that he wants to run for. To have a chance for it, he has to step outside his current position somewhat to indicate his ability to achieve it.

That is what Jindal has been doing and getting criticism for it. But, after all, if one is to be elevated to a higher position, he must show he has the ability to get it and perform well in it.

Jindal’s chance is only a few short months away. Though he must continue to serve in his current post, he needs to show his ability to climb that ladder.

So as fellow Louisianians, we should open his door somewhat to communicate with voters about what he can do in the higher position. And it is time for him to start doing that in addition to just traveling here and there to shake hands and ask for support.
