Lafon rewarded with four more years

The St. Charles Parish School Board has extended Rodney Lafon’s contract as superintendent for four more years – and for good reason. In this day and age when many communities are suffering from deficiencies in their education processes, our parish has rated superior in that direction.

The fact that the vote on the extension was unanimous in favor of it, with the exception of one member who was absent, speaks even further in its favor.

This will extend the superintendent’s service of 18 years to at least 22.

St. Charles has always had one of the better school systems in the state. Other superintendents here in the past have also scored well which is a credit to our school boards in keeping on top of their purpose in setting the stage for high level education in our parish.

Among the highest points in the board’s evaluation of Lafon was his ability to keep school finances in good shape. Funds have kept a healthy balance, a factor that is not so prevalent in other school districts.

Also, maintenance of clean, safe and healthy environments for the education process to proceed successfully in St. Charles are considered major reasons for its progress.

So we welcome our superintendent to at least four more years of service and wish him well in fulfilling his contract. Our school system, after all, has been one of the major benefits of living in St. Charles.
