It’s okay to say ‘boo’ but keep it under control

Judging from items put on sale by local stores, Halloween has become one of the biggest observances of the year. We’ve been seeing vampire costumes, jack-o-lanterns, gruesome masks etc. on display by retailers for some two months now.

It used to be only Christmas and Easter demanded such attention. Now, it seems, we have become a bit ghoulish in our celebrations, if Halloween can be considered such.
Anyhow, kids undoubtedly will have fun Saturday night in St. Charles Parish communities as they take to the streets to seek or deliver “tricks or treats.” We hope the treats will be plentiful enough to discourage too many tricks.

And hopefully, parents will be not too far behind, keeping watchful eyes to keep their youngsters under control and out of harms way. It’s okay for them to say “boo” but we don’t want any boo-hooing going on.

In other words, let’s keep it a fun occasion for all, homeowners who welcome the gift-seeking kids to their homes and the recipients who also have fun booing their neighbors in a friendly manner.

Let’s keep this creepy holiday a good time for people to meet their young neighbors in a spooky, but well-mannered way.
