Info tours are unique way to learn how government works

Residents of St. Charles Parish have a unique opportunity to find out a lot about how St. Charles Parish operates when it comes to its government and the services it provides.

On Oct. 15, they can visit West Bank operations and, on Oct. 17, those of the East Bank between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. both days. The new St. Charles Parish Emergency Operations Center, located at 15026 River Road in Hahnville, will be the meeting place for both tours.

Additions to tours in the past will include a walk-through of the St. Charles Parish Animal Shelter and the new Edward A. Dufrene Community Center on both days.

The West Bank tour will include the Luling wastewater oxidation pond, Cousins Pumping Station and the Luling waterworks facility. The East Bank tour will show off the Destrehan wastewater treatment plant, the Cross Bayou Pumping Station and the New Sarpy waterworks plant.

Our parish president, V. J. St. Pierre Jr., cordially invites all parishioners to view some of the facilities that operate the public functions of our parish.

“I want to personally encourage all St. Charles Parish residents to take the Info Tour. It offers a complete look at what it takes to keep the parish up and running, in a way that many residents don‘t notice as they go about their daily activities,” he said.

And in many ways, our citizens don’t realize what’s involved in the overall operations required to keep our parish running.
