Ortman Hazelwood Townsend Jr. entered into eternal life during the early hours on the morning of Feb. 15.
Townsend was the son of the late Ortman Hazelwood Sr. and Antonia Picot Townsend. Ortman Jr. was married to Catherine Ruth Lastrapes Townsend for 53 years.
Townsend worked for the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans, from which he retired after 30 years.
The quiet and kind spirit of Ortman Jr. will be cherished in the memories of his wife Catherine, his children: Lisa Therese Townsend Henry (Jimmie), Gregory Mark Townsend (Kandi), Ortman Hazelwood Townsend III (Toya), grandchildren: Shalin Jeanise Townsend, Sherise Janae Townsend, his sisters: Rita Townsend Duvernay and Shirley Townsend and former daughter-in-law, Sherian Jeanine Townsend.
Townsend also had five step grandchildren, six sisters-in-law, five brothers-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Ortman Sr. and Antonia Townsend, two brothers: Anthony Townsend and Francis Joseph Townsend and one sister: Mary Delphine Townsend and S.S F. (Audrey).
Parishioners of St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church, Sisters of the Holy Family, employees of the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans, employees of the Louisiana Vocational and Rehabilitation Services, employees of Today’s Car Care, employees of Triple A of New Orleans, students of Hahnville High School, and students of McNeese State University were invited to vistation.
Visitation was held Feb. 20 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 234 Angus Dr. in Luling followed by a Mass of Christian Burial with interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 1020 Virgil St. in Gretna handled arrangements.
