Shelley Michael Tastet

Shelley Michael Tastet, 66, a native and resident of Luling, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, Dec. 20.

Born on Feb. 17, 1950, Tastet is survived by his wife Mary Tully Tastet of 40 years; son Brooks Michael Tastet (Suzanne); Gretchen Michelle Tastet (Berto); brothers Earl “Pie” Tastet, Gary Tastet; sisters Jeanette Tassin, Nathalie Giovingo, Stephanie Rester and granddaughter, Addilynn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Joseph Tastet and Julia Nicholas Tastet; brothers Leroy Tastet, Ferris Tastet and sister Debbie Clanton.

Tastet was a graduate of Hahnville High School and attended Nicholls State University. He served his country as a specialist in the United States Army and was honorably discharged on July 5, 1972.  He retired from the Occidental Chemical Co. after devoting 35 years of service.

Tastet served as a member of the Lafourche Levee Board for eight years where he was involved with helping to expedite the process of the West Bank Hurricane Protection Levee Project serving as president during the Hurricane Katrina aftermath.

First elected to the St. Charles Parish Council on Nov. 17, 2007 as District 2 councilman, Tastet was re-elected to a second term on Oct. 22, 2011 and recognized for his dedication and service to the citizens of St. Charles Parish.

In addition, he served on various council committees, Louisiana Police Jury Association and the National Association of County Officials and on the Hospital Service District Board as Council ex-officio.

Tastet was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church, member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2409 and owner of Tastet Demolition Services.

Known for his endless energy, passion and inclusiveness of all he met, Tastet will be fondly remembered for his love for family and life.

Visitation was held Dec. 23 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Luling followed by a a Mass of Christian burial.In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org.
