Ronald Vanryckeghem

A Celebration of Life was held in the Sunrise Chapel at Walters Funeral Home on Thursday, September 8, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. for Ronald Vanryckeghem, 62, who passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2022. A rosary was prayed at 3:00 p.m., immediately followed by services. Deacon Ken Soignier officiated the ceremony. Inurnment was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation hours were observed at Walters Funeral Home on Thursday, September 8, 2022 from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.

Ronald is survived by his wife of 26 years, Gina Vanryckeghem of Friendswood, TX; his daughter, Clara Vanryckeghem and her husband Lee Barba of League City, TX; his father, Bill Vanryckeghem of Lafayette, LA; two sisters, Robin Kernan and Gail Kishbaugh of Lafayette, LA; one brother, Michael Vanryckeghem of New Orleans, LA; one granddaughter, Stella Barba; his aunt, Pat Young and her husband Milo of Grand Isle, LA; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Marcella Vanryckeghem; his maternal grandparents, Theresa and Burma Mitchell; his paternal grandparents, Ethel and Albert Cline; and his great-uncle, Rudy Petrezelka.

Ronald was employed by Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) for over 35 years where he was a Safety Superintendent. He enjoyed watching and playing sports. While attending Hahnville High School he played both football and baseball, and went on to attend Northeast Louisiana University on a baseball scholarship where he pitched for three years. He enjoyed watching Turner Classic Movies, horse racing, and was an avid music lover (especially Neil Young). Ronald was a parishioner at Mary Queen Catholic Church in Friendswood, TX.

His favorite quote, “Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius and it’s better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring.”

Walters Funeral Home, (337) 706-8941, 2424 North University Avenue in Lafayette, was in charge of funeral arrangements.
