Rodney “Cap” Cortez, 84, a native and resident of Des Allemands, passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2021.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at St. Gertrude Catholic Church, Des Allemands, LA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with burial to follow in Des Allemands Mennonite Cemetery.
He is survived by his children, Starr Dufrene (Darrel), Greg “Hootie” Cortez (Faith), Marcella Harmon and Terrence “Tee” Cortez (Katina); grandchildren, Je’an, Lacie, Danielle, Courtney, Erin, Triston, Jalin, Gage, Storm, Taylor, Maliry, Marissa and 25 great grandchildren and former wife, Shirley Plaisance.
He was preceded in death by his wife Nora Tregle Cortez; children, Dawn Budzinski and Chad Smith; brothers, Edward “Pedro” Cortez, Albert “Dash” Cortez, Wilmer “Red” Cortez, John Cortez, Marcellus “T-Babe” Cortez, Fred “Peanut” Cortez and Elsa “Red” Cortez; sisters, Bertha Matherne, Carrie Ayo, Juia Bishof, Ethel Horn, Margie St. Amant and Leona Frazier.
Rodney was a U.S. Army Veteran.
